Foundations of Gestalt Therapy

One year to experience Gestalt Therapy.
And see where it takes you.

The Foundations of Gestalt Therapy program is a one-year immersion for anyone interested in bringing greater awareness, connection, and skill into the way they work with others. You’ll learn alongside first-year Certificate and Licensure students, experiencing the same foundational Gestalt curriculum through theory, practice, and personal exploration. Come for the year as a meaningful experience in itself, or continue into one of our longer programs with your Foundations coursework counting toward your first-year requirements.

Who It’s For

You don’t need to be a therapist to study Gestalt Therapy. Foundations is open to people from a wide range of professional backgrounds who want to become more aware, relational, and effective in how they work with others.

  • You’re a coach, educator, business leader, lawyer, or other professional whose work depends on human connection and communication.

  • You’re curious about Gestalt Therapy and want to experience it more deeply than a workshop allows.

  • You’re considering becoming a therapist but aren’t ready to commit to a three or four-year program.

  • You want professional development that also creates space for meaningful personal growth.

  • You’re already a clinician and want a deeper foundation in Gestalt Therapy.

No previous clinical training is required.

“Foundations is a great way to experience Gestalt Therapy, whether you’re considering a longer program or simply want to bring greater skill to your work in teaching, coaching, leadership, or life.”

What You’ll Learn & Experience

Across the year, you’ll build a foundation in Gestalt Therapy through a combination of theory, hands-on practice, and personal exploration.

Foundational Gestalt Theory

Explore the ideas at the heart of Gestalt and how awareness, relationship, the present moment, and experimentation can change the way we work with people.

Experiential Practice

Learn Gestalt Therapy by experiencing it. Through exercises, practicum, and live faculty demonstrations, you’ll see the approach in action and begin practicing foundational skills yourself. Foundations students practice with one another and do not see clients.

Personal & Professional Growth

A year gives you something a standalone workshop can’t: time to let the learning sink in. As your skills develop, you’ll deepen your awareness of yourself, your relationships, and how you show up with others, with plenty to bring back to your work and life.

One year can be the whole experience.
Or
just the beginning.

Foundations is designed to be valuable whether or not you decide to continue your training. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of Gestalt Therapy, early practical skills, and greater awareness of how you connect and communicate with others.

Students who successfully complete Foundations may apply to continue into the second year of the Certificate or Licensed Psychoanalytic Training Programs. LP students will need to complete additional LP-specific coursework.
