Certificate Program

In school, you learn theories and concepts.
At the Gestalt Center you learn how to be a therapist.

For licensed clinicians or those in the process of obtaining a license who want greater confidence, presence, and skill in the therapy room, our three-year Certificate Program combines rigorous study and experiential learning. You’ll deepen your understanding of Gestalt therapy while developing your own way of practicing it

Live Practicum • Faculty Demonstrations • Live Supervision • Personal Therapy • Intensive Retreats

Who It’s For

Three smiling people sitting on a green couch, two women and one man holding a framed certificate of completion. The man is wearing glasses and a white shirt, the woman in the middle has shoulder-length blonde hair and is wearing a black and white striped dress, and the woman on the left has short black hair, glasses, and is wearing a dark patterned top.

This program might be fore you if:

  • You graduated from a clinical program but still don’t feel fully prepared to practice psychotherapy

  • You’re seeking hands-on experience, live supervision, and feedback, not just more theory

  • You’re building or refining a private practice and want greater clinical confidence

  • You’re looking for meaningful professional growth and renewed passion for your work

  • You want a professional community you can continue learning alongside

  • You’re a social worker, psychologist, mental health counselor, marriage and family therapist, creative arts therapist, licensed psychoanalyst, physician, nurse or other qualified health and healing professionals

“Many clinicians tell us this training gave them what graduate school didn’t: confidence, clinical judgment, and felt sense of how to actually be a therapist.”

Learn Gestalt by experiencing it.

Developing as a Gestalt therapist means learning the theory, seeing it practiced, trying it yourself, receiving feedback, and experiencing the work from the other side of the therapeutic relationship. That’s why experiential learning is woven throughout all three years of the Certificate Program.

Practicum

Practice therapy live in a small group with an experienced supervisor present. You’ll have the opportunity to work as therapist and client, observe your peers, receive immediate feedback, and develop confidence.

Faculty Demonstrations

See Gestalt practiced in real time. Faculty conduct live demonstrations throughout the program, followed by discussion that helps students understand the choices, observations, and clinical thinking behind the work.

Clinical Experience & Supervision

Clinical work is a central part of becoming a therapist. Students begin seeing clients as part of their training and receive ongoing supervision as they work toward the clinical experience required for licensure.

Intensive Training Retreats

Winter and Summer Intensives offer several days of immersive learning outside the usual classroom environment. Through demonstrations, experiential exercises, personal exploration, and time together as a community, students have an opportunity to go much deeper into the work.

Personal Therapy

You don’t only study the therapeutic process. You experience it yourself. Personal therapy is required and gives students firsthand knowledge of Gestalt while supporting the personal development involved in becoming a therapist.

What You’ll Leave With

Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion in Gestalt Psychotherapy, but the real outcome of the program goes well beyond the credential.

You’ll leave with extensive live practicum experience, deeper clinical skill, greater confidence in your own therapeutic presence, ongoing experience with case consultation and supervision, and a professional community that extends beyond graduation.

A Community That Grows With You

Your relationship with the Gestalt Center doesn’t have to end when the program does. Graduates remain part of an active community of therapists, faculty, and alumni, with opportunities to return for continuing education, workshops, and future intensives.

Annual tuition is $4,000.

In addition to tuition, students should anticipate costs associated with supervision, room and board for intensive trainings, and required personal therapy.

Monthly payment plans are available and all or part of the cost of training may be tax deductible. Consult your tax advisor.

Some partial scholarships are available through the M’Lou Caring Diversity Scholarship, created to support greater diversity within the Gestalt community.

Applications are accepted year-round, with new students entering in September or February.

Decisions are typically made within one month, and because class sizes are intentionally small, early application is encouraged.
