Our Approach

Here, you’re a human, not a number.

Thanks to technology, there are a lot of ways to connect with a therapist these days. We believe finding therapy shouldn’t mean entering your information into a platform and hoping an algorithm gets it right.

At The Gestalt Center, there’s a human on the other side receiving your request.

Our intake coordinator takes the time to understand what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’re looking for, and what you can comfortably afford. From there, we help connect you with the right therapist, either a Gestalt Center student or our wider network of Gestalt-trained graduates.

Therapists are human, too.

There’s no single type of person who becomes a therapist. Our network includes therapists of different ages, cultures, identities, backgrounds, and lived experiences. Some came to this work early. Others found their way here after doing something entirely different.

The Gestalt Center has a long history of providing affirming care for LGBTQ+ communities and people who have historically faced barriers to quality mental health care. What our therapists all have in common is a commitment to showing up as real people. Curious. Present. Thoughtful. Ready to meet you right where you are.

Transformation begins with awareness.

At the heart of Gestalt Therapy is a simple method: present-centered awareness. Together with your therapist, you begin paying closer attention to what’s happening moment to moment. Your thoughts and feelings. Your body’s signals. The patterns in your relationships. The things you do automatically without realizing you’re doing them.

Through authentic dialogue, thoughtful experimentation, and attention to your immediate experience, new perspectives can emerge. You may find yourself paying attention differently. To yourself. To other people. To the world around you.

And as awareness grows, so too does the freedom to respond differently to life’s challenges.

Gestalt helped shape modern psychotherapy.

Long before mindfulness, somatics, working with parts, and relational therapy became part of the modern therapeutic vocabulary, Gestalt therapists were already working with many of the practices at their core. Present-moment awareness. The wisdom of the body. The different parts of ourselves that emerge in different situations. The healing potential of authentic human relationship.

What feels contemporary about Gestalt isn’t new. It’s been foundational to the work all along.

Dr. Marilyn Rosanes-Berrett
